Appearance- The Samsung SF 5100 black and white, laser, fax printer with Samsung SF 5100 toner is real grafter while being very compact in terms of size. Considering it's a three-in- one machine it measures 9x12x13 inches and weighs an extraordinary light 6 kilograms. Unbelievable? Believe it! What's more unbelievable is the quality of prints as well as the crazy-cheap price of US$400.00 for the printer fax. You just cannot go wrong with this investment. Ideal for both office and home use.

Paper handling- The machine has a rather limited150 sheets input and 100 sheets output capacity, with document feeding at 20 sheets. Unfortunately not all paper sizes and types are compatible with the device. Only A4, Letter and Legal sizes and plain paper type is accepted.

Print quality- Samsung's edge enhancement technology makes every print on this machine a black and white piece of art. Overall print and image quality is absolutely perfect. Copies are produced at 300x 300 dpi at a rate of 6 pages per minute. Faxes are transmitted at a Speedy Gonzales pace of 6 seconds per page. Documents can be enlargement up to 130% and reduced as low as 50%.

Controls- Controls on the Samsung SF 5100 printer fax is generally uncomplicated. Buttons are easily legible and located on the front of the machine with a 7 language LCD display. The controls get a little more tricky when faxes need to be sent. This is most probably due to the variety of dialling options available. Transmission option one is keying in of the fax number on the numbers pad and then hitting start/enter button. If you want to use option two the number you want to use will have to previously dialled. All that's then required is the pressing of the one touch dial key. Speed dialling is option three. The option is accessible when the number has been added to speed dialling list.

Advantages- The machine is a real workhorse, boasting with super fast fax transmissions and copies at a mere 6 second per page. Reliability is the device's strongest feature with auto redial, priority transmission and transmission reporting as an added bonus

Disadvantages- The only flaw I could really pinpoint on the machine is paper tray design glitches. The input tray is too small both in length and width and output tray's design affects the way the paper exists the machine. Sent and received pages both end-up in the paper tray located at the bottom of the machine. There is another tray at the top of the machine with rare hiccups. Paper flow problems may be encountered when using unconventional paper sizes or types.

Expense- This fax printer is easily the greatest cost saver on the market. The purchase of the printer self is already a great investment when considering it's price and the toner saving when compared to inkjet machines. Once the machine is installed the real saving will start, with super comparative cost when comparing inkjet and thermal transfer to it's laser counterpart. Green Peace members will be very happy about the machines' power and toner saving features. These features are not only to the advantage of the environment but also your pocket. Consumers are in the clouds with Samsungs toner saving feature as this consumable can often cost you an arm and a leg. Be sure to only use Samsung SF 5100 toner with this product.
