OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) is a networking suite created by International Standards Organization in the 1980s as a European subject. The OSI model comprises 7 layers through which the communication process is divided and defined into multiple tasks of information movement through the networked computer.

Below is a description of the layers that make up the OSI model in detail: the physical layer5 contains a description of the property objectives regarding the communications media which is rather diverse, the electrical properties and an analysis of the exchanged signals; The Data Link is the second layer and is used for an illustration of the logical organization in regard to how the data bits are transmitted on specific medium. The Application layer is used for describing how work actually gets done and it is capable of implementing the operations of the filer system. This means that there will be 600 dots per inch on both the vertical and horizontal parts of the page. 4800x1200 is becoming a standard on some of the higher end printers these days, and some will even go as high as 9600x2400 in quality.

The number of pages per minute that it will be able to print measures the speed. This speed will be different based on whether or not black and white pages or color pages are going to be printed. Some printers can handle up to thirty black and white pages in a minute and eight color pages in a minute, for instance.

Some printers are able to handle scanning or fax technologies. Some will also be able to copy pages right from the printer without a connection to anything. CD and DVD label printing is also featured on some of these newer printers. Those are the computer printer characteristics to think about when buying a new printer. Western Digital is known for high quality external storage drives, but they have now added an extra layer of security with the ability to set RAID 1 or 0 on the Mirror Editions. Whether you need external storage for business or personal reasons, these drives are worth looking into.

The My Book Mirror Editions currently are available in two sizes - 1-terabyte and 2-terabyte. As with other My Book drives, these do not come at a small MSRP. MSRP on these units are $289 - $549 dependent on the size you get. Keep in mind, these are suggested retail prices; the units can be found for much less.

Measuring at 6.54" x 6.06" x 3.87" and weighing only 5.2 pounds, the My Book Mirror Edition fits nicely in any setting - on desk, in an entertainment center, or anywhere else you could imagine hiding it. The overall design is quite sleek with a book-like shape and shiny black exterior. Additionally there is a blue LED light that is a status indicator for users, which is located right on the front of the unit for easy visibility.

Users have the choice between either RAID 1 or RAID 0 on the My Book Mirror Edition. The My Book Mirror Editions come with two hard drives; each of which are easily removed and replaced if necessary. These devices use USB connectivity only; there are no FireWire or eSATA connection ports.
