Working with the Dell 2135 printer, which is a color laser unit, is a breeze, mainly because the below-600 dollar list price is so easy on the wallet in this budget-constrained world. Also, the Dell 2135 toner, in color or black-and-white, is plentiful for order and restocking, which should ease the worry of the home-based business entrepreneur likely to be buying this unit.

How Much Can it Print? This unit puts out about 16ppm in b&w and 12ppm of color print jobs.

Printing Readability. Standard 600dpi print quality will make most home business entrepreneurs pleased to use the Dell 2135. However, if generating fine or rich print such as resumes, then it might be a good idea to find something a bit more capable. But for most day-to-day uses, the machine will slot in nicely.

Ease of Installation. Like every other Dell, it's extremely easy to get up and running and to hook up to either a single computer or to a small network server. USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet are the interface ports of choice for the Dell 2135. Given that most home or small office business won't have a dedicated IT staff to handle installation, the 2135 guides you along as you hook up various cables and start up the installed software.

How Durable is It? With a 40,000 page monthly duty cycle, chances are a home business won't hit that mark for some time on patterned schedule. Given that, maintenance costs should be low, which also contributes to low per-page printing costs, which thereby make ownership of this unit even nicer.

Versatility. As an "all-in-one" printer, copier, scanner and fax machine, the Dell 2135 can put out color pages when required, and then scan them or fax them to others. This only increases its attractiveness to the home business market segment.

Considerations. With a 250 sheet standard paper tray, you may find yourself having to fill it back up more often, but this isn't too much of a concern, given the kind of mission the 2134 was designed for (home office-type use). As with every Dell product, strong warranty protection in the form of the Dell 24/7 package comes standard. The on-site repair offered is good for 1 year, with an extra 4 years available at a nominal fee.

Laser Toners. The Dell 2135 toner cartridge puts out about 2500 black and white documents or 1000 color pages. For a unit in this segment, that's pretty good. It also doesn't cost a great deal of money, so you won't freak out when reorder time rolls around.
