Do you know how many hundreds of gigabytes of storage you can store on your computer? Every handheld device such as the iPod and MP3 player usually has several gigabytes of storage. The correct method of data storage is one of the most important questions you must ask yourself. Not long ago the first hard disk drive to have a gigabyte capacity was huge, as big as a freezer.

The photographs were developed about 200 years ago and represent an analog optical storage application. Light which cameras' use, can be easily used for digtal information recording, especially since the invention of lasers. Optical recording is considered a future replacement for magnetic recording of data storage. They have a much greater reliability than magnetic recording systems. Another advantage of optical recording systems over magnetic ones is their removability.

Some types of secondary storage technologies include the use of USB sticks, floppy disks and the new Zip drives. These types of secondary data storage are organized and formatted for the job they preform and are very efficient ways of accessing information on these devices. Secondary storage differs from primary storage because it is not directly accessible by the CPU.

Most computers use hard disks as a secondary storage. the main characteristics for any storage technology is capacity and performance. In the 1950's and 60's non-volatile memory was used. This type of memory does not need a constant supply electic power. However, volatile memory is the fastest and requires constant power to maintain the stored information.

You must backup your data to counter all the what ifs in life. One of the best and most economical ways to do this is to hire an outside company. They promise security of your sensitive information with an automated solution. Most can not afford the painful recoveries and often lost data that doing it yourself may bring about.

Most companies also provide rapid, automatic and non-intrusive data storage without interfering with your day to day business. If you are spending all your time trying not to lose important data you can work harder increasing your business.

Besides secure, automated and cost-effective solutions your business could be ruined just because you have not backed up your data often enough. Data storage depends on continuity. The automatic backup is a rapid and non-intrusive backup for your data without user action.

Some companies can reduce your files as well as store them and it will charge less by doing so. Users can recover their data with efficiency and as they say time is money in the business world. You want to choose to be safe with your valuable information.
