Top management is constantly reviewing and assessing solutions that are capable of meeting all disaster recovery requirements in any large enterprise. This is because most organizations these days need to comply with almost zero downtime service criteria and having a breakdown because of any disaster will mean loss of global business opportunities. Therefore, organizations require data recovery (DR) solutions that enable recoveries from remote sites in a short period so that enterprises can optimize on cost of data recovery.

While choosing DR solutions, it is critical to choose solutions that are capable of working in tandem with the local backup taken by organizations. Technologies that provide continuous data protection (CDP), asynchronous replication over IP, application failover/failback, and WAN optimization by leveraging disk as the recovery media is now available in the market. There are new DR models that capture data for recovery purposes unobtrusively and immediately generate recovery points that can be effectively used to rewind applications to any previous point in time.

There are also asynchronous replications which supports short or long distance DR requirements over IP networks. These technologies also use WAN optimization technologies that allow them to support even large applications using very little bandwidth. In case of application failover/failback , these solutions are capable of leveraging a shared model, instead of the shared disk model in order to enable high availability for any application environment.

Enterprises looking for reliable DR solutions must ensure that the solution allows them to preserve their existing investments in hardware, software, and networks as they deploy a DR solution. It should also be ensured that the solution is able to offer a very stringent recovery point objective, recovery time objective, and meet all recovery reliability requirements.

Today, centralized DR solutions that cater to backup elimination and application recovery solutions are available for enterprises that operate on a global basis. These solutions spread backup across the day so that its impact is not noticeable. Also, in case of application recovery, so solutions offer failover/failback templates. But it is important for enterprises to check if solutions enable rapid and reliable data recovery at both the object and full system level, directly from disk whenever it is required.

A fully automated and centralized application recovery software is the best solution for enterprises that are keen on continuity of business at all times.
