Ironically, the most overlooked computer component is the monitor. Most power users will spend a lot of money on expensive CPU and fill their main board with tons of RAM, and never give a second thought to the component looking them in the face. Undoubtedly the computer monitor is the most visible component of a computer system, yet many people will suffer along with a small screen when they would get much better performance from a widescreen computer monitor.

Most consumers begin to think of their budget when it comes to purchasing anything related to a computer. This is perfectly understandable, but you should know that it is possible to find a good quality widescreen monitor somewhere in between $149 and $400. This makes a widescreen monitor within the reach of almost all consumers. One word of caution when purchasing any monitor, don't buy monitors which come with a speaker set. The speakers are usually very inferior in sound and quality.

Many computer gaming companies are actually starting to design their games to be played on widescreen monitors, due to the fact that the added detail and faster refresh rates greatly enhance the gaming experience. You may not really think about this too much, but once you see your favorite PC game grandly displayed on a widescreen monitor, you will definitely be able to notice the difference.

People who often work with many programs at once often find that a widescreen monitor allows them to be able to have more windows open at once, while still being able to see and read all of the information that is being displayed. For example, you may have a spreadsheet, your email, and your web browser all pulled up at the same time.

If you tried to use several different programs on a regular sized monitor, you would have to resize them to fit. In many instances this means that you would have each one of them so small you could not see them easily, which could result in eyestrain and a sore neck from leaning into the screen. A widescreen monitor takes care of this problem by giving you more space to spread out programs and make them larger so you can see them.

Consumer reviews can often be relied upon to give you a good indication of the satisfaction you will gain from owning a specific model of widescreen computer monitor. Many times an Internet search will save you from purchasing computer components which are actually outdated, or even worse, of bad quality.
