Isn't A Netbook A Laptop?

By Alberto Domingo

Have you ever heard of a netbook? Some people have, some people haven't. If you haven't heard of netbooks, you are probably wondering what it is.

The answer to your question is rather simple. A netbook is a very thin, super lightweight, and ultra portable laptop computer. The size of the screen is ten inches or less and the processor is a very low powered processor.

Netbooks are a rather good solution for individuals who need a small computer to stay connected when away. Here is what you can expect from the average netbook.

Processors: Most of the netbooks on the market today are running on a processor built by Intel called the Atom chip. Because most of these little laptops are all running on the same processor, you really need to do your homework and see what sets each brand and each model apart from each other.

Battery Size: Almost all of the netbooks that consumers are buying come with a 3 or 4 cell battery. Many consumers want larger batteries to come standard on the netbook. Because of the huge push to get bigger batteries, some netbooks are now coming with up to a 6 cell battery. These larger batteries do add some weight and make the netbook look a bit larger, but some people say it's worth it.

Screen Size: About 95% of all netbooks have a screen size of ten inches or less. Pushing the boundaries that separate netbooks and laptops, some of the newer netbooks are selling with twelve inch screens.

Storage: Almost all of the netbooks that are being sold in 2009 are coming equipped with 2.5", 5400 RPM SATA drive.

Keyboard: The first wave of netbooks came with very small, very cramped keyboards. This wasn't intentional, it just happened because of the small size of the device. Today, most netbooks have almost a full size keyboard. They are about 92% the size of a normal keyboard.

Wrap Up: No matter what you think, netbooks are a portable device that will be around for a long time. They are perfect for anyone who wants to always stay connected to the internet, always have access to email, and always be able to run small programs on their computers.
